Best Way to Get from Yerevan Airport to City Centre

As said above, the “best” way for each traveller will vary, depending on how they are travelling. If you are visiting the city for a small holiday with your significant other, or by yourself, taking public transport may be an interesting way for you to be introduced to the country. On the other hand, if you are visiting with a larger group, or have business in the city, booking a private airport transfer from Zvartnots Airport to Yerevan will in fact be a much more suitable option. In the latter case, namely for business trips, AtoB also offers a chauffeur service by-the-hour, which means you can have a driver to take you to and from your meetings, back to your hotel, seamlessly.

Is there a Train from Yerevan Airport to the City?

Although there are trains in Armenia, they are not as ubiquitous as in other countries. Due to this, the journey from Zvartnots Airport to Yerevan is not yet possible. Trains in Armenia most commonly serve as intercity transportation, with a few routes running from the central station to neighbouring cities.

Getting a Bus from Yerevan Airport to City Centre

Fortunately, there are buses that serve to take you to Yerevan from the airport. They are not as luxurious, or large, as ones found in other countries, but they serve their purpose nonetheless. They are locally called Marshrutkas (minibuses). The bus to catch from the airport is the 201 Elite Bus, which can get you from the airport in just 15 to 25 minutes, and costs 300 AMD, or around €0.72 or $0.78.

It is important to note that Armenia has numerous privately owned bus companies, more so than publicly owned ones. Due to this, make sure you select the correct one.

The 201 bus runs daily, from 7:00am to 9:00pm, every 30 minutes.

Various Transportation Options from Yerevan Airport to City Centre

When it comes to public transport, as we have seen, your options are somewhat limited, with the bus being your only option. This isn’t the case for private transport, as in this case, you have available to you a plethora of options, such as standard taxi cabs, car rental, and of course private transfers. Each of these come with their own advantages and disadvantages, which we shall briefly cover below.

Standard Taxi Cab

Hailing a taxi as soon as you reach the airport may seem to be the most convenient thing to do, as not only do you see the vehicle you are travelling up close, you also see who is driving it. As you are able to barter with the driver also, it may seem to be an affordable option, if your bargaining skills are good enough. The downsides to taxis mostly revolve around the availability of the cabs, as during the busier seasons you may be stuck waiting in line for the next taxi alongside other impatient tourists.

Car Rental

Renting a car can be a great option, as it allows you to travel on your own time, not having to rely on others to get you from point to point. Unfortunately, when renting a car you are often quoted a very low price per day for the car itself, but not told up front about the price of the insurance waiver. Depending on the company, which we shant name any, you can end up being charged an exorbitant amount before even picking up the car, which, although returnable, can leave you out of pocket before your trip has even begun.

Private Transfer

A private transfer from Yerevan Airport to City Centre combines the efficiency of being able to pre-book your trip before arriving, meaning you won’t be waiting in any taxi line, with the ability to specify beforehand exactly where you need to go, meaning you know the price before arriving. Aside from this, you can choose to include extra add-ons, such as child seats, which are perfect for families travelling with children. The downside to private transfers often seems to be the price, which, although may only be marginally higher than a standard cab, can often serve as a deterrent for travellers.

Cheapest Way from Yerevan Airport to City Centre

As is usually the case, public transport, namely in the form of a bus, is your cheapest option by far for getting from Yerevan Airport to City Centre. For less than a dollar, you can get to the city centre. As it is cheap, it must also be noted that it is not always the most comfortable, nor efficient way to get around. During busier seasons the bus can be crowded, where it can be difficult to get a seat, if you’re even able. Due to this, if you prefer to feel reassured knowing that you can definitely leave the airport as soon as possible, booking a private transfer may be your only option.
