Marco Polo Airport Private Taxi

Arriving at Venice Marco Polo International Airport puts you close enough to Venice, but your trip onward is not always as simple as the distance shows, depending on your final destination. Since Venice is a combination of road-connected mainland and the historic Venice city centre, ordinary cars cannot reach addresses beyond the road network.

A private transfer service from Marco Polo gives you a hassle-free airport transport service between Venice Marco Polo and road-accessible addresses in Venice, Mestre, and farther across Veneto or Northern Italy.

Heading to Venice itself? A private airport taxi can take you as far as Piazzale Roma, since the airport is located on the mainland. The remaining part may continue by private water transport or on foot, depending on your final destination in Venice.

With AtoB, your airport transfer from Venice Marco Polo is basically arranged A-to-B well before you land. We monitor all flights and make sure to adjust your pickup accordingly. This way, your driver can meet you right on time and take you directly to your selected location.

Did you know? Marco Polo is Venice’s main airport, and as of 2024, also the 6th-busiest airport in Italy. The only airports ahead of it are Fiumicino, Milan Malpensa, Bergamo, Naples, and Catania.

What Happens After You Land at Marco Polo?

For starters, the airport has one terminal, so there is no decision to make about T1 or T2 after landing. You have to pass through Schengen or Extra-Schengen arrival procedures, then reclaim your baggage, and move toward the exit.

If you pre-arrange an airport transfer in Venice, your driver will meet you right in the arrivals hall on the ground floor with a name sign, after you collect your luggage. From there, there is no need to stay in the queue or wait for a taxi from Venice Airport — you can head to your pre-booked vehicle and go straight to your destination.

FYI: Marco Polo doesn’t have a railway station. If you need a train connection, you have to travel to Venezia Mestre station (most convenient on the mainland) or Venezia Santa Lucia station (in historic Venice). The main public transport options are ordinary buses and water buses.

Where Can a Private Transfer from Venice Airport Take You?

Venice is the most obvious destination after landing at Marco Polo, but it’s not the only possible option. The airport also serves the area around Venice, Mestre, as well as the wider Veneto area. It particularly suits travellers heading toward Treviso, Padua, Jesolo, and other north-eastern locations in Italy.

Travel tip: Check whether your address has calle, campo, or fondamenta in it; chances are the property is inside Venice’s pedestrian centre. Also check where road access ends before you pre-book a Venice private taxi transfer.

When Does a Venice Private Transfer Make Sense?

Not every single landing at Marco Polo calls for a pre-arranged Venice taxi, especially if you’re visiting Venice and solo-travelling with light luggage and heading right to Mestre or Piazzale Roma.

A pre-arranged transfer can therefore make much more sense when:

  • You are travelling in a larger group or with children and have a lot of luggage;
  • Your accommodation is in Mestre or any other road-accessible destination;
  • You are heading towards another city or resort;
  • The public transport option would require extra connections;
  • You land late at night or early in the morning;
  • You’re travelling with sports equipment.

Note: For accommodations deep inside historic Venice, a pre-arranged transfer alone may not cover the entire journey. That’s worth checking before you book.

How to Plan Your Journey from Venice Airport?

When in Venice, the full address matters more than the city name. So, before travelling:

  • Check the exact address of your accommodation;
  • Find out whether your destination is road-accessible;
  • Check your final road stop for the centre of Venice and whether you need a connection;
  • Allow for extra time if your trip also includes a water connection, walking, or transport change.

Once those details are figured out, planning your Venice journey becomes much easier.

Local Tips

Arriving at Marco Polo?

Here’s What to Expect

Your hotel may not be reachable by car

Venice’s historic centre is largely pedestrian. You can reach as far as Piazzale Roma by road. After that, you may need to go on foot or by water.

Venice is closer than you think

Travelling from Marco Polo to Venice is very simple and fast (up to 30 min by road). At the same time, destinations elsewhere in Veneto may require several connections.

Mestre and Venice are different

A destination in Mestre is on the mainland and can usually be reached directly by car, while an address in historic Venice may require a transport change.

Bridges do matter

A route that seems short on the map can have several bridges, so a 10-min Venice walk may feel very different when you have two large suitcases.

Keep "Piazzale Roma" in mind

This is Venice’s main road hub where airport buses and vehicles arrive at the historic centre. Onward travel continues on foot or by water.

A water taxi is different from a vaporetto

While a vaporetto is a public option with scheduled stops, a Venice water taxi is a private boat service - more expensive and personalised.

Standing for coffee is normal

At traditional bars, having an espresso at the counter is a daily habit. Plus, table service can include different pricing, especially in tourist areas.

Addresses work differently here

In Venice, addresses may be surprisingly unintuitive for first-timers. Keep your accommodation name and location at hand rather than relying on street-style addresses.
