Is there a Kuala Lumpur Airport to City Centre Train?

The first entry in our guide, but likely to be the most affordable (although we shall touch on that later). If you are looking to experience the Malaysian railway, this is a great first opportunity to try it out.

Fortunately, there is a very convenient non-stop train that runs between the airport and city. To catch it, you’ll first need to head to the train station in the airport, located easily by following the many signposts in the arrival terminal.

This train runs every 20 minutes throughout the day, and costs only 55 Malaysian Ringgit (MYR), which converts to around 10 to 11 euros (roughly the same in dollars).

One can purchase their tickets either online, or via one of the ticket terminals available at the station.
After boarding the correct train (KL Sentral), enjoy the 30 minute journey through the Malaysian countryside, passing through a few towns and hamlets along the way, before arriving at the central station in Kuala Lumpur.

Getting a Bus from Kuala Lumpur Airport to City Centre

There is not currently a public bus route that services these two destinations. Although one may be able to find many private shuttle operators, they are usually packed to the brim and mostly uncomfortable. Due to this, we recommend you stick to either the train, or enjoy the privacy of an airport transfer.

Distance Kuala Lumpur Airport to City Centre

In total, there is a distance of 43.1 kilometres between the airport and the centre of the city. By car, as the distance will be slightly larger, the distance increases to around 60 kilometres. The duration of a trip, either by train or car, will range from 30 to 60 minutes.

Transport from Kuala Lumpur Airport to City Centre Options

As stated in an earlier section, not only do you have trains available to you, but also a few private transportation methods, namely car rental or private transfer. Car rental, although it may seem quite an attractive option to travel, due to the flexibility of driving your own vehicle, on your own schedule, comes with a few downsides.

The most prominent being the insurance waiver that needs to be pre-paid for, before receiving the car. Although this may seem quite logical, it can be quite costly, depending on the provider. What sounds better, being out-of-pocket before your trip even begins, or saving a few bucks and being able to enjoy a few more Teh Tarik (pulled tea – national drink)?

Cheapest Kuala Lumpur Airport to City Centre Transfer

As is almost always the case, public transport is the cheaper option. For the equivalent of 10 euros, you can get a relatively quick trip from the airport to the city. It is important to take into consideration the price per passenger though, as when calculating this as well, you will likely find that booking a private transfer is both more affordable, as well as comfortable.

For example, if you are travelling with a large group of friends or family, let’s say 6 individuals in total; if you pay for each of them, it will cost you 60 euros for a single journey with the train. If you consider that same price per passenger, you will see that a private transfer comes out to in fact be cheaper. So, what sounds better – a packed train or a private transfer? – we thought so!
