All you need to know for Avram Iancu Cluj airport and Cluj-Napoca city
Iancu, Avram Cluj-Napoca International Airport serves the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca. It is located 9 km east of the city center, in the Someșeni area, which is now within the Cluj-Napoca city limits and was previously known as Someșeni Airport.
Avram Iancu, a Romanian revolutionary, is honored with the airport’s name. After Bucharest Henri Coandă, Cluj-Napoca International Airport is Romania’s second busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic. Cluj-Napoca is Romania’s fourth most populous city. It is the administrative center of Cluj County, which is in the country’s northwest corner. It is roughly equidistant from Bucharest (445 km), Budapest (461 km), and Belgrade (483 km).
The city is considered the unofficial capital of the historical province of Transylvania and is in the Someșul Mic river valley. Transylvania’s ‘capital’ has a large student population and an artsy vibe, with excellent clubs and some of Europe’s most popular electronic music festivals. The city is in bloom in the spring and autumn, and the city has vibrant fall colors.
The weather isn’t as hot as it is in the middle of summer, but it’s still warm enough for alfresco drinks. The festivals attract many visitors during the summer, but there are great events all year.
