Timișoara is served by Traian Vuia International Airport, which is an international airport. The airport is named after Traian Vuia, a Romanian flight pioneer. It is in the historical region of Banat. It is Romania’s third busiest airport in terms of air traffic and the main air transportation hub for the western part of the country.
Wizz Air uses the airport as a base of operations, and it is a backup airport for Bucharest (OTP), Budapest (BUD), and Belgrade (BEL). Timișoara International Airport was the first Romanian airport to receive European Aviation Safety Agency certification in 2017. The airport is 12 kilometers northeast of Timișoara’s city center. The airport is in the same district and borders Giarmata-Vii, a Ghiroda commune component village.
The E70 European route from Timișoara to Bucharest provides access to the airport. Timisoara is overflowing with museums, galleries, and well-preserved historical buildings, and is set to become the European Parliament’s Capital of Culture in 2023.
