Is there a Train from Yerevan to Tbilisi?

There is, yet it is an overnight train and takes around 8 hours to reach its destination. Additionally, it is unclear whether the train runs all year round, with some sources stating that it is only available in the winter, thus take this guide with a grain of salt.

You can catch the train from the Yerevan Central Station. The train is available every second night of the week, and leaves the station at 9:30 in the evening. The cost of a ticket is 11,295 AMD (€27.20 – $29.36) and can be purchased at the station or online, although we don’t recommend using the online portal, as it seems to be very unreliable, rarely working at times.

The train should arrive the next morning, between 7:30 and 8:30, so make sure to book a sleeper cabin, unless you don’t mind sleeping in a standard chair.

Getting a Yerevan to Tbilisi Bus

Buses are slightly more convenient than trains, taking around 5 and a half hours to get between the two destinations. There are a few Marshrutkas (minibuses) that offer this route, with most costing around 8000-10,000 AMD (€20-25.00 – $20-25.00).

From the Hayrenik Station, you can catch the bus, which is provided by Hayreniq Tours. Tickets can be booked beforehand via their website or Whatsapp number, available online.

As the journey is in a minibus, it can be very uncomfortable, with the winding mountain roads being terrible for those who suffer from motion sickness.

Aside from the public transport options mentioned already, you do have a few other options available to you, namely car rental, taking a flight, or a private transfer.

Car rental can be efficient, as it allows you to travel at your own pace, although the expensive insurance waivers needed to be signed can oftentimes leave you out of pocket before your trip starts.

A flight is the quickest way to get between the two locations, although tickets can be expensive. If you book your tickets well in advance, you may be able to get a decent price. The trip by air will take around an hour.

A private transfer will take around the same time as a bus, although it will be a lot more comfortable, as well as private.
