Is There a Train from Adelaide Airport to the City?

There isn’t a train, yet there is a metro line that can connect you to the city centre. The cost of a single ticket is modestly priced at only $6.20, or $4.20 if you are travelling at off-peak hours. Be sure to purchase your tickets prior to boarding the tram, as failure to do so can lead to fines.

Keep in mind that metro and bus drivers no longer accept cash payments, so don’t attempt to buy tickets from them.

From the airport, locate the metro station by following the many signposts found throughout the terminal. Once there, buy your tickets from one of the kiosks and board the correct Metro, depending on which stop you wish to get off at. The most central point of the city is Victoria Square, with a number of hotels, restaurants and bars being located nearby.

Getting a Bus from Adelaide Airport to the City

A bus is another popular and mostly efficient method for getting between the airport and city centre. The route is mostly the same as with the metro, yet you will need to go to the bus stop at the airport, rather than the metro station. It is also easy to locate by following the many signs directing you toward it.

Tickets cost the same, thus either $6.20 or $4.20 depending on the hour you travel at. Peak hours are considered as before 9am and after 3pm.

Cheapest Transport from Adelaide Airport to the City

The cheapest method of transportation from Adelaide airport to the centre of the city is either the metro or bus, yet there are a few downsides to these, which we shall go over briefly.

A first disadvantage to public transport is the inability to book on demand, meaning you have to catch the bus or metro when it arrives, which can lead to delays.

Second, the two public transport means mentioned can get incredibly crowded during peak hours, meaning you may not be able to safely store your luggage, or even get a seat.

Finally, tying in with the previous note is comfort. By taking a crowded bus or metro, you will most likely be uncomfortable for the entire duration of the trip. If you are disabled, or travelling with lots of luggage, then it is recommended to book an airport transfer to get to your destination easily and safely.

There is a total distance of 6 kilometres between the airport and city, making this a relatively quick trip. By car, the journey should only take 12 minutes, depending on the traffic.
