Best Way to Get from Brussels to Charleroi Airport

What could be considered best by some, would be inconvenient for others. Thus, rather than providing you with a single “best” option, we plan to detail all of the available transportation methods for getting from Charleroi to Brussels, from which you can select the most appropriate option for you. From trains, to buses, to private transfers, you will have a plethora of options before you, all that is left is choosing the best one for you.

Is there a Charleroi Airport to Brussels Train?

Taking a direct train from the airport to Brussels is not currently possible. In order to make the trip by train, one would have to first travel to the central station in Charleroi, from where a train ride is possible, yet this option is only offered during the day, meaning travellers who arrive at night would not be able to follow the same route. In addition, getting from the airport to the centre is also challenging, thus relying on one of the more convenient options is recommended.

To briefly detail the trip, in the off-chance you are really hellbent on taking the train, is as follows:

From the CRL airport, walk to the JUMET Monument bus stop and catch the number 11 or 28 bus to the JUMET Madeleine stop. Once there, switch onto the M3 tram line and take it to the central station. Once at the central station, check the departure board for the soonest train departing to Brussels, although being cautious not to take one of the longer routes, as these can take more than 3 hours to reach Brussels. When you find the correct train, purchase a ticket from one of the kiosks, or via the SNCB app, and head to the platform.

Board the train, which will take you all the way to the Gare du Midi stop in Brussels. Depending on the train you take, you may also be able to stay on it longer and disembark at either Brussel central, or Brussel North stations.

Travel Tip: Take the bus, or a private transfer.

Getting a Bus from Charleroi Airport to Brussels

In a similar case to above, there is no direct bus that departs from the airport and takes you directly to central Brussels. Nevertheless, there are a number of different bus routes you can take, and we shall cover one of the few public options, as there are also a number of private providers offering the trip.

From the airport, make your way to the JUMET Monument bus stop and catch the number 11 or 28 bus to the JUMET Madeleine stop. From there, your bus to Brussels should be waiting. The bus to take is the 365a bus to Bruxelles Midi. The trip with this bus should take an hour and a half, with a stunning 73 stops along the way!

Once in Brussels, at the Gare du Midi train station, you can easily find a tram or metro to your final destination. Your bus will leave you outside the station, thus you will need to head inside in order to use the underground lines.

Travel Tip: You can purchase tickets for the underground system in Brussels at one of the many ticket kiosks in the station.

Various Transport from Brussels Charleroi Airport to City Centre

If you’ve reached this point in the article and are still unsure about which transportation method to use, allow us to provide you with a few more. We have exhausted all of your public transportation options, meaning we now have to move on to private ones.

One of the more popular private choices is car rental, which seems to be a flexible and mostly affordable option for getting around a new country in the privacy of your own car. The issues that arise from renting a car are two, namely the expensive insurance waiver that needs to be paid beforehand, which usually isn’t even advertised in the car rental price, and the unsure nature that driving in a foreign country can often have.

Car share apps like Poppy offer an affordable way to rent a car by-the-minute, meaning you won’t have to pay the whole lump sum in one go, plus you won’t have to worry about expensive insurance agreements. Another plus for Poppy is that you also don’t have to pay for fuel, as it is already included in the price you pay. The downside to this service is the airport parking and rental fee, which will cost you around 50 euros, just for picking the car up from the airport.

Cheapest Transfer from Charleroi Airport to Brussels

As is usually the case, public transport is much cheaper. You can take the bus or train for less than 20 euros, for a mostly convenient ride to the city. Sadly comfort is never a guarantee with public transport, plus you will have to carry all of your own heavy luggage to the station before getting on the train or bus. Due to this, we would like to make our final recommendation, which is both efficient and affordable: a private airport transfer with AtoB. Below you will find the fixed, all-inclusive prices for a trip to Brussels, and if you scroll down further, we will walk you through the booking process.
