Is there Public Transport from San Jose Airport to City Centre?
Yes, there is public transport between San Jose Juan Santamaria Airport and the city centre. You have two options: the Tuasa bus and the Station Wagon bus. Both buses operate every day from 4:00 am to 10:00 pm, and stop right next to the airport terminal. The Tuasa bus takes you to the north side of Parque de la Merced in downtown San Jose, while the Station Wagon bus takes you to the Coca Cola bus terminal, near the Central Market.
The journey time is about 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the traffic. The ticket price is very cheap: only 560 colones (around 0.9 USD) for the Tuasa bus and 535 colones (around 0.85 USD) for the Station Wagon bus. You can pay with cash on board, but make sure you have the exact amount, as the drivers do not give change. The buses are comfortable and have air conditioning, but they can get crowded during peak hours. You also need to keep an eye on your luggage, as thefts can happen.
Taking the bus is a good option if you are on a tight budget and do not mind the longer travel time. However, if you prefer a more convenient and faster service, you can also book a private transfer service like AtoB, which will pick you up at the airport and drop you off at your hotel in the city centre.
