How Do I Get from Paris to Versailles by Train?

As the distance from the Palace of Versailles to Paris is only around 15 kilometres, the train ride is relatively quick. Although a rapid train route will soon be available, currently a slightly longer route is offered.

From Montparnasse Gare take the N (Transilien) train towards Rambouillet, which runs at convenient intervals all day long. The quick train ride will get you to Versailles in around 30 minutes, only stopping 7 times prior to your stop at the 8th station.

The ticket costs just €2.10, making it one of the cheapest options. You can buy your tickets at the ticket office or from a ticket machine. Make sure to keep them on you at all times during your travel.

There are other trains departing from different train stations in Paris. The above guide is deemed to be the quickest route.

Travel Tip: If you plan to travel a lot by public transport, buy a Navigo pass.

Getting a Bus from Paris to Versailles?

There are bus routes between the two locations, but, depending on which part of Paris you are staying in, you may need to use additional transit options as well, namely the metro. The bus begins its trip at the Pont De Sevres train station, which can be reached by numerous bus and tram lines. Buses 160, 175, 179, 260, 42 and 426 all have routes which pass through, or at least close to the Pont de Sevres station.

When you have reached the Pont de Sevres station, you will need to catch bus 26 to Ville D’Avray. From there, catch bus 471 all the way to Versailles. Only one bus ticket is needed, as they are usable for up to 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Travel Tip: There are rideshares available between the two destinations, so you can still travel by road, but in a car.
