Is There a Train from Reykjavik Airport to City Centre?

Unfortunately, for all the train aficionados, wizards and general enthusiasts of doin’ the locomotion, there are no railways on the entire island of Iceland. Due to this, one will have to either take the bus, which shall be discussed below, or rely on one of the private transportation methods we will include further down.

Getting a Bus from Reykjavik Airport to City

Fortunately, you can take a bus, and it is both cheap, as well as mostly convenient. For the route with the least amount of walking, you will need to change buses at the midpoint of the journey. In total, the ticket will cost only 4 euros, and can be purchased directly from the kiosks at the airport.

After arriving at the airport, and collecting your luggage; head outside to the airport bus stop, which can be easily located by following the signposts in the terminal.

Locate bus number 15, which will have illuminated neon lights indicating its number, and take it to the Hlemmur bus stop. Once there, locate one of the following buses: 1, 3, 6, 11, 12, all of which go past the centre of town.

That’s all, you’re done! Keep in mind that your ticket for the first bus can be used on the second one as well!

The two are incredibly close to each other, with the airport in fact being located within city limits. In total there is only a 2 kilometres distance, or so.

Alternative Transportation from Reykjavik Airport to City

As previously said, the bus is your only choice for public transportation. When you consider private travel, the options expand. We have briefly mentioned cabs and auto rentals, but now is the time to dig a little more.

Taxis, while quick and convenient to hail from the airport, may frequently be pricey, with a tariff scheme that charges more the greater the distance you travel. As a result, AtoB is recommended since we offer a fixed pricing on our booking platform and will not charge you a single red cent extra during or after your vacation.

Car rentals, too, have certain drawbacks. The most noticeable feature is their exorbitant insurance waivers, which can range from a few hundred euros to several thousand euros. The stress of navigating an unfamiliar country is the second disadvantage. Icelanders drive on the right side of the road, which can be an unpleasant learning experience for some, especially when combined with impatient local drivers who always seem to be in a rush.

Leave the hassle of getting about to others – after all, you’re on vacation! Book a premium transfer with AtoB and travel in comfort and style.

Cheapest Way from Reykjavik Airport to City

It is quite difficult to find a low-cost, high-quality mode of transportation. It is critical to emphasise this. What you pay for is what you get. Buses may be a cheap method to go from point A to point B, but they may also be unreliable, crowded with unruly visitors, or simply uncomfortable. Do yourself a favour and pay a bit extra amount for a more comfortable, peaceful ride. Our transfers ensure a world-class transfer experience at a reasonable price.
