Pisa Airport Private Taxi

Pisa Airport has one advantage that is hard to beat: you practically land on Pisa’s doorstep, but don’t let the airport name narrow your plans. Pisa is also a major airport for travellers heading to Florence, Lucca, Versilia, and of course, Tuscany.

Many of you barely see Pisa at all before travelling onward after landing, isn’t that so? People usually book private transfers from Pisa Airport to Siena, Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi, San Gimignano or Cinque Terre.

If this sounds like you, you can arrange your private taxi transfer today and travel directly from the airport to your hotel or villa. You can use the same service when it’s time to catch your flight home.

FYI: Pisa is Tuscany’s busiest airport. It handled over 50% more passengers than Florence Airport in 2025.

What happens after you land at Pisa Airport?

After collecting your baggage, you’ll meet your driver in the arrivals hall. They’ll be waiting for you at the agreed place, holding a sign with your name.

If you arrange a private transfer, you’ll receive the exact meeting instructions and your driver’s contact details before the airport pickup. So, make sure to keep your phone switched on in case you need to contact your driver.

Good to know: We use flight tracking systems to adjust your pickup to your actual arrival time in case of delays. Your driver will follow the updated flight information and meet you on time.

Where can you go from Pisa Airport?

“Galileo Galilei” Airport is particularly convenient for Pisa itself and western Tuscany. But a private transfer can take you anywhere throughout Tuscany and beyond.

Head north, and you’ll quickly reach Lucca and Versilia. South of the airport, you can go towards the Tuscan coast and Livorno. Go inland for Volterra, San Gimignano and Siena. Private taxis can also be booked towards popular destinations like La Spezia and the Cinque Terre region.

The all-time favourite tourist spot, Tuscany, has a habit of putting some of the nicest villas and countryside hotels exactly where public transport doesn’t reach, and this is exactly when a pre-booked transfer makes perfect sense.

Should you book a private airport transfer?

Yes, if your final destination goes beyond Pisa and is far from public transport connections.

Now, let’s be realistic. If you’re solo travelling to central Pisa with light baggage, the public bus may be all you need.

A private airport transfer is particularly convenient if:

  • Your destination is well outside Pisa.
  • You’re carrying heavy suitcases.
  • You want to avoid public transport schedules, taxi queues, and extra connections.
  • You’re travelling with children or a group and would rather keep everyone in one vehicle.
  • Your flight lands or departs late at night or early in the morning.
  • You’re arriving during the peak holiday season.
  • Your accommodation is far from public transport connections.
  • You’re heading towards the coast for Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi, Pietrasanta or other Versilia destinations.
  • You have a scheduled ferry or cruise connection.

What to check when booking your airport transfer?

Start with the correct flight number and exact drop-off address. But also:

  • Use the correct airport code: PSA.
  • Enter the full address of your accommodation.
  • Select your private car by the number of passengers and luggage capacity.
  • Include child seats, oversized baggage, extra wait time, and other add-ons if necessary.
  • Allow extra time for your return transfer to the airport, especially in the summer.
  • Please let us know in advance about any mobility requirements you may have.

Travel tip: Heading to a port? Enter the correct port or terminal, not just the city, as your drop-off when booking a transfer from the airport.

Local Tips

Arriving at Pisa Airport?

Here’s What to Expect

The airport is that close to the city

PSA is only about 5 km from central Pisa by road. Don’t budget an hour just because you’ve landed at a major airport.

No railway station outside the terminal

You can take a local shuttle or pre-book a transfer to Pisa Centrale, from where you can continue by train to destinations across Tuscany and beyond.

More than the Leaning Tower of Pisa

Discover another side of Pisa beyond Piazza dei Miracoli – the Lungarni, Piazza dei Cavalieri and the lively student streets of the city centre.

Lucca is much closer to Pisa Airport

Florence may be Tuscany’s capital, but its airport isn’t always the most convenient option. If you’re heading to Lucca, Pisa is considerably closer and the more practical option.

Not all Tuscan beaches are the same

Tirrenia is known for its sandy beaches, Marina di Pisa mixes pebbles and sand, while Marina di Vecchiano offers a more unusual setting of pinewoods and dunes.

Versilia gets particularly busy in summer

Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio draw heavy traffic during the peak summer season. Leave extra travel time for airport transfers around weekends.

Your villa name may not be enough

A countryside accommodation may sit kilometres from the town centre. Keep the map location and full address handy when arranging a transfer.

FI-PI-LI is one to remember

You’ll often hear locals use this name for the road connecting Firenze (Florence), Pisa and Livorno. If your driver mentions it, you already know what they mean.
