Land at Trapani-Birgi Airport, and you’re well on your way to discover the westernmost side of Sicily.

Good to know: Trapani-Birgi Airport, also known as Vincenzo Florio, is actually a military airport, also serving civilian traffic. It’s the quieter alternative to western Sicily’s main airport – Palermo (PMO).

What happens after landing at Trapani (TPS)?

Right after you land at the airport, you collect your luggage (plus passport control for non-Schengen passengers) and continue towards the arrivals hall to meet your driver.

Worth mentioning that TPS only has one compact terminal for both arrivals and departures. So, finding your personal driver won’t be hard at all, especially when you know they’ll be waiting for you with a name sign.

Where can you go from Trapani Airport?

Vincenzo Florio Airport is particularly convenient for western Sicily, starting with Trapani and Marsala (the closest) and reaching the region’s best-known coastal locations within an hour’s drive.

Trapani is the most obvious choice, especially if you’re heading to the Egadi Islands by ferry, while Marsala’s historic centre and wineries are just as close. A little bit to the north, the whole scenery changes, with popular holiday spots.

When does a pre-arranged taxi make sense?

First, check your exact drop-off address and arrival time.

A few other things worth your attention:

• Double-check your flight number (we use it for real-time tracking so that we can adjust the meeting time when necessary);
• Your hotel location (leave enough time between Trapani Port and your departure if you’re heading to Levanzo, Favignana, or Marettimo);
• Seasonal traffic (roads towards popular destinations can get busier during the summer);
• Return journey (for a transfer back to the airport, plan everything backwards from your departure instead of the regular driving time, plus don’t forget about check-in and traffic).
