Best Way to Get from Lisbon Airport to Cascais

It is always a difficult task to provide the “best” way to get from one point to another. Usually, the travel preferences of one person is very different from that of another. Individuals travelling with children, let’s say, will not find taking public transport to be very efficient, whereas those who are travelling by themselves, or perhaps with only one partner, may find a train or bus ride quite enjoyable.

No matter which option you choose, we have laid out all the necessary information in the rest of this article, hopefully assisting you make the “best” choice for you in Portugal.

Is there a Lisbon Airport to Cascais Train?

There is indeed a train between the two destinations, although you will need to make a few connections. In general, taking the train is an affordable way to travel, costing a little over €15 and taking 1 hour and 18 minutes, approximately.

To begin your trip, head to the Metro station in the airport, from where you can catch the Vm Metro towards Alameda station. There, you will need to make a connection with the Vd Metro. This second trip will get you to the Cais de Sodre train station, from where you can catch a train to Cascais. Metro tickets can be purchased at the station from one of the many kiosks, costing a total of €1.65 for a single journey.

When arriving at the train station, check the departure board to locate the platform your train will be departing from. As Casais is the last stop, the train will be named as such. In total the train ride will take 33 minutes, and has 10 stops along the way. Tickets for the train can either be purchased online, or via the official website of the train service in Portugal.

Travel Tip: The train station in Cascais is roughly a 14 minute walk from the town centre.

Getting a Bus from Lisbon Airport to Cascais

There is no bus that services the route between these two destinations, meaning you will have to rely on other transportation methods in order to get there.

In total, there is a distance of 26.5 kilometres in a straight line. By car, the distance increases to 35 kilometres, depending on the road you take.

Cheapest Way from Cascais to Lisbon Airport

As is usually the case, the cheapest option you have available to you is public transport, namely the train. In total, the combination of Metro and Train tickets needed to get to Cascais, will cost you less than €20 per person. For solo travellers, this is a great deal.

On the other hand, for groups travelling together, when considering the cost of an airport transfer, booking a van and splitting the cost between all passengers will actually come out to be cheaper than taking the train.
