Looking for Some Local Events?

Are you looking forward to feeling Slovenia on your skin? This is achievable by attending some of their local events. Let’s see some together!

Kurentovanje (Pust). One of the most important traditional carnivals in Slovenia. In fact, some say that this carnival has evolved from ancient pagan rituals. It takes place in February and in essence, it’s a celebration of the end of darkness (winter) and the arrival of light (spring). Street performances and street food are all about this event. A must-go.

Pruning of the vine. If you are in Maribor in late February to early March, you have to attend this. This is Maribor’s annual festival of pruning their oldest vine. You could also say the world’s oldest vine as it is said to be 400 years old. We are sure you can easily guess what this festival is about!

Try Delicious Slovenian Сuisine

This is our favorite section. And yours too! Regardless of the purpose of your visit in Slovenia, you’ll have a unique opportunity to embark on a culinary journey. Slovenia is a traditional country and food is no exception. And the good thing? Each region has its own traditional food. Let’s eat!

Štruklji – rolled dumplings. The oldest dish that dates back to the 16th century. This is the side dish for sauces and meat, while it can be served on its own as a dessert.

Žganci. A traditional cornmeal mush from buckwheat flour with a “pinch” of cracklings. You can also choose to eat it with a chicken stew or a mushroom soup. Very famous in Slovenia’s mountainous regions.

Potica – rolled dough Slovenian cake. Our favorite Slovenian cake by far. This IS the literal ambassador of Slovenia. Like Štruklji, Potica also dates back to the 16th century and it was a dish prepared only for the upper class and the nobles. And you’d get the opportunity to taste it. That says a lot, right?
