Is There a Train from San Diego Airport to Tijuana?

At the time of writing, there is no train track that offers a route between the two destinations. Although train travel is popular in the United States, there has yet to be a track built between these two cities. Due to this, one will have to rely on one of the other transportation options provided in this article, be it either bus, or private transfer.

Getting a Bus from San Diego Airport to Tijuana

The bus route connecting these two cities is unfortunately not very convenient. In total you will have to take 2 different buses and walk for a while, for a transit time of around 3 and a half hours with the most convenient option.

To begin your trip, head to the east terminal of the Airport, where you will find the bus station. Once there, purchase a ticket and board the 992 bus, heading to the downtown region of the city. Disembark the bus at the Broadway & Kettner BLVD stop. Briefly walk to the America Plaza station, where you will need to catch the Blue line trolley, which will take you to the San Ysidro Bus station on the US/Mexico border.

From here, you will need to enter Mexico on foot, as there are no buses that cross the international border. By foot, the journey to downtown Tijuana should only take an hour, and the walk will offer some nice views of the city from afar.

Another option you may consider, if the bus route seems overly complicated, is car rental. Renting a car is a convenient and flexible way to get around, and will offer you the ability to travel at your own pace.

There are a number of providers who rent cars at the airport, although you will need to specify that you plan to cross and international border. Due to this, you may have to sign a hefty insurance waiver, or may even be rejected for rental. Aside from that, it can also be quite intimidating to drive in a foreign country.
