Best Way to Get to from Athens to Nafplio

There are several transportation options available to travel from Nafplio to Athens, the beautiful coastal town in the Peloponnese region of Greece. The most convenient way to get there is by car, as, with a distance of around 140 kilometres, it takes just over two hours to drive. If a car isn’t an option, though, you can also opt to take a bus from Athens Bus Station (KTEL) to the coastal town, which departs hourly and takes about two and a half hours.

A further option is to hire a taxi or private transfer with AtoB, which, although slightly more expensive, offers more flexibility and comfort. Each transportation option has its own advantages and disadvantages, but it’s up to you to choose the one that fits your budget and schedule the best.

Getting a Bus from Athens to Nafplio

Bus is currently the only public transportation option available for getting to Nafplio from Athens. From the central station in Athens you can take a direct bus to Nafplio, which will also pass through the towns of Fichti, Argos and Isthmos. The journey overall should take a little over two hours, and is provided by KTEL Argolidas. You can locate the central bus station by heading to Kifissos, which can be reached most conveniently by Metro, getting off at the Agios Antonios station.

f you are travelling from the airport, you will first need to take the metro line M3 from the airport to Syntagma Square, from where you will need to change to the red-line metro M2, and alight at Agios Antonios Station. From there you can walk to the KTEL bus stop.

A one-way bus ticket to Nafplio will cost €13.10, whereas a return will cost €24.00. The bus service runs all day, starting at 5am and running until the evening with convenient departures every hour.

In a straight line, there is a distance of 91 kilometres, but by road this will increase to 150 kilometres. Athens is located in Central Greece (Sterea Ellada), whereas Nafplio is in Peloponnese (Peloponissos).

You are mostly restricted in how you will get from one city to the other, with the bus being the only available transportation option. Although ferries are popular in Greece, there is currently no route which runs from Athens’ Piraeus port to Nafplio, although it may be introduced in the future.
