How Can You Get from Abu Dhabi Airport to Centre by Train?

Although there is a railroad in the UAE, it has yet to be fully developed in the city. More specifically the connections within Abu Dhabi have yet to be constructed, although it has been planned and will be opened in a few years. The Metro is also under construction as of yet, and should be opened by 2033.

There is a bus, fortunately. The tickets are also very modestly priced, at 4 Dirham (€1.00), and the duration of a trip is around 45 minutes, depending on traffic. The service runs every 40 minutes, 24 hours a day, making it mostly convenient.

There are a total of 5 lines that run from the airport, the A1, 490, 211, 240, and X81, all will take you to the city, but drop off at different locations. For more information on the exact drop off points, head to the official website.

The bus stops are located outside all of the terminals, as well as the cargo building and Police complex. You can locate the stops easily thanks to the blue and white signs which are located throughout the airport.

Travel Tip: Tickets can be purchased from the driver, who, as of writing this article, only accepts payments in Dirham, so make sure you have some on you.

The distance between the city and its centre is around 30 kilometres by car, slightly longer by bus, as it will need to pass by a number of other stops before reaching the centre.

Cheapest Way from Abu Dhabi Airport to City

By far the bus is the cheapest option. Costing the equivalent of 1 euro, it can take you to the centre of the city cheaply. If you prefer convenience, though, the bus is not the option for you. Due to multiple stops being between the airport and city, the duration of your trip will depend on how many other passengers are getting on and off the bus at any given stop.

Aside from that, the bus can become crowded during the summer months, although it is usually easy to find a seat, due to most travellers choosing to book a transfer.
