When it comes to the best way of getting from one point to the other, this depends heavily on one’s own travel preferences, as well as their travel needs for this specific journey. Piraeus Port, located in the city of Piraeus in Greece, is the biggest port in the Eastern Mediterranean and the fifth largest port in the Mediterranean Sea. Piraeus port is over three thousand years old, and it has been used as a naval stronghold, a commercial port and its most recent use, a combined passenger and cargo port.
This port has had a tremendous significance in Greek culture, economy, and history. It is the chief port of Athens and is one of the main hubs of the Greek shipping industry and the starting point of most international ferries, cruises and expeditions in the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean. Since it is the main passenger port in all of Greece, the port contains all the shops, restaurants, kiosks and cabins needed for a comfortable trip ashore.
If you are an avid train traveller, you will be delighted to hear that there is a direct train connecting the two ports. The train from the Airport to Piraeus port is known as the “Proastiakos”, and has a journey time of a little over one hour.
The Proastiakos leaves directly from the Airport Rail-Station and stops very close to the port. To find the Airport rail station, you can refer to one of the many sign posts throughout the arrivals terminal, which will guide you there.
The cost of a single ticket is €9.00, which can either be purchased from ticket offices/vending machines at the station, or conveniently online, through the official portal. The Proastiakos train runs from early morning (6am) until late night (10pm), with trains departing every hour. For this particular journey, the train is a stress-free way to get from port to port.
Travel Tip: Tickets can be bought even at the last minute, as prices do not fluctuate for intercity routes in Greece.

Similarly to the train ride, taking the bus is also a very efficient and cost-effective way to get between these two ports. The X96 express bus takes approximately 1 hour 41 mins, and is a comfortable and convenient way to get to your destination. The bus departs from the airport every 30 mins and runs during the day and evenings – 7 days a week.
The cost of the ticket is €5.50, and can be purchased at the airport or onboard the bus – just make sure to have exact change. Onboard luggage is allowed, but you may incur additional fees depending on your luggage size and the driver’s discretion. A valid ticket must be presented when boarding the bus, so make sure to keep it while you are travelling.

By road and rail, the distance is roughly 50 kilometres, whereas as the crow flies, the distance is just 27.2 kilometres.
As the route is relatively common, you have a number of easily accessible options to get you between the two locations. As has been elaborated on thus far, you can take either a train, metro, or bus to get to your destination. If these methods do not suffice, though, we shall also discuss in the following the available options for private transfer.
