Is there an Athens Airport to Piraeus Port Train?

If you are an avid train traveller, you will be delighted to hear that there is a direct train connecting the two ports. The train from the Airport to Piraeus port is known as the “Proastiakos”, and has a journey time of a little over one hour.

The Proastiakos leaves directly from the Airport Rail-Station and stops very close to the port. To find the Airport rail station, you can refer to one of the many sign posts throughout the arrivals terminal, which will guide you there.

The cost of a single ticket is €9.00, which can either be purchased from ticket offices/vending machines at the station, or conveniently online, through the official portal. The Proastiakos train runs from early morning (6am) until late night (10pm), with trains departing every hour. For this particular journey, the train is a stress-free way to get from port to port.

Travel Tip: Tickets can be bought even at the last minute, as prices do not fluctuate for intercity routes in Greece.

Getting a Bus from Athens Airport to Piraeus Port Bus

Similarly to the train ride, taking the bus is also a very efficient and cost-effective way to get between these two ports. The X96 express bus takes approximately 1 hour 41 mins, and is a comfortable and convenient way to get to your destination. The bus departs from the airport every 30 mins and runs during the day and evenings – 7 days a week.

The cost of the ticket is €5.50, and can be purchased at the airport or onboard the bus – just make sure to have exact change. Onboard luggage is allowed, but you may incur additional fees depending on your luggage size and the driver’s discretion. A valid ticket must be presented when boarding the bus, so make sure to keep it while you are travelling.
